Diego Brasioli is the former Italian Ambassador to Luxembourg and has been Ambassador to Romania (2013-2017) and Principal Director for North Africa and the Middle East of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2017-2018). From 2018 to 2020 he has been Principal Director for Security Matters and Deputy Director General / Principal Director for Cyberdiplomacy and Technological Innovation—Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Diego Brasioli graduated in Political Science at the University of Rome and at the Collège d’Europe in Bruges (Belgium) and began his diplomatic career in 1986.

Returning to Rome in 2007, he was called to lead the Office III of the Directorate General for Political Affairs, dealing with the fight against transnational organized crime and international terrorism, and following the political agenda of the G8 and preparing the G8 Summit of L’Aquila (2009).
In 2010 he was appointed President of the Interministerial Committee for Human Rights (CIDU). From 2013 to 2017 Ambassador of Italy in Bucharest, Romania. In 2017: Principal Director for the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In 2018: Principal Director for Security Matters and Deputy Director General for Political Affairs of the Italian Ministry of Affairs. Member of the CSF (Financial Security Committee) established at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Focal Point for Italy in the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism to external threats to democracy.
From 2020 to 2024 he was Ambassador of Italy to Luxembourg.
Diego Brasioli collaborates with the University of Luxembourg, as part of the Master of European Governance, with a course on "Diplomacy in the Contemporary World: New Challenges and Strategic Priorities" and is a member of the Italian Society of Political Science (SISP) as well as the Scientific Committee of the Italian Diplomatic Academy (IDA).
