After studying International Management and working in the corporate sector, Jehoschua Ahrens pursued rabbinical training and was ordained in Israel. He holds degrees from Bar-Ilan University, the University of Cambridge, and a doctorate from the University of Lucerne. He has served as a rabbi in Sofia, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Nuremberg, Darmstadt, and since 2023, Bern. A member of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference of Germany, he is also Honorary Director for Central Europe of the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation. Throughout his career, he has been actively engaged in Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Christian-Muslim dialogue.
Rabbi Privatdozent Dr. Jehoschua Ahrens, has recently been honored and appointed Honorary Professor for the Abrahamic religions with the Faculty of Theology in Trier. The inaugural lecture took place on Monday, 18 May 2026, in the Faculty’s main hall. Professor Ehret delivered his lecture jointly with Dr. Ahrens, and the two professors will address the theme “Christology as a Challenge in Jewish–Christian Dialogue,” each from his respective disciplinary and confessional perspective.
